Noteflight Releases Version 1.0 of Online Music Notation Editor
Many Enhancements To Score Editor; New Learning Edition Targets Educational Customers
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. March 16, 2009 Noteflight, LLC launched version 1.0 of its online notation platform today, ending its beta period with an enthusiastic user community now numbering in the tens of thousands. The Noteflight 1.0 platform includes the free Noteflight.com Web site, alongside the newly announced subscription-based service Noteflight Learning Edition for music educators.
Noteflight is the first music notation editor to have been designed expressly for creating and sharing musical documents on the Internet. The 1.0 release of the the Noteflight Score Editor brings with it many new features, including MusicXML import, MIDI/audio file export, lyrics, dynamic markings, and automatically transposed parts. The Score Editor now includes a novel and intuitive approach to drag-and-drop editing, in which notes and passages can be rhythmically altered by simply dragging them sideways. These additions greatly strengthen the musical reach and power of the Score Editor, while leaving its simplicity and ease of use intact. The Score Editor remains available at no cost for individual, non-commercial use on the Noteflight.com Web site.
Noteflight Learning Edition places the Score Editor in the service of education, providing schools with private online communities for music learning on a paid subscription basis. With Learning Edition, teachers and students can create and share musical resources and assignments, in a way that seamlessly integrates with popular online course management systems such as Blackboard, Moodle, WebCT or Haiku LMS. Students can access musical material from any Internet-enabled computer, and instructors can review and mark up student work from anywhere. In short, Learning Edition revolutionizes teacher/student workflow for musical assignments, eliminating uploading, downloading, email and file conversion headaches.
“This release reflects the incredibly valuable feedback we’ve received during our public beta, says Joe Berkovitz, President of Noteflight. “We’ve used that information to make the fundamentals of online notation better. We’ve also gone further and crafted a new offering that puts these ideas to work for teachers and students, who are already online and demand musical tools designed for the Web.
