Noteflight Notation Software Wins 2010 Best Tools for Schools Award

Music educators at the 2010 NAMM show select Noteflight cloud-based notation software as the most useful for the classroom and for student musicians.

February 8, 2010 — Noteflight, LLC (http://www.noteflight.com), a company dedicated to reinventing the creation, sharing and use of written music, today announced they have been chosen as Best Notation Program by music educators through School Band & Orchestra Magazine’s 2010 Best Tools for Schools award program. At the 2010 NAMM Show, music educators scoured the show for superior software for the classroom and for student musicians, and their search led them to Noteflight.

Music education technology that enables collaboration is a top priority for K-12 and higher education. Noteflight’s online notation service not only allows students at all levels with a Web browser to create, edit and play musical compositions online, but they can also share and collaborate on scores with other students. In addition, Noteflight-created scores can be published online, such as on blogs and personal web sites, and can be printed as sheet music for off-line use.

“Providing value to the music education community has always been at the center of Noteflight’s mission,” stated Joe Berkovitz, President of Noteflight.  “Noteflight is uniquely designed to serve the entire spectrum of music education because we provide an affordable, web-based notation tool. Last year, we decided to add to the inherent educational value of Noteflight by creating Noteflight Learning Edition, which includes specific features for students and teachers.”

Originally announced at last year’s Technology Institute for Music Educator’s (TIME) Conference, Noteflight Learning Edition actively engages students in the process of making music through its accessible but powerful notation tool. For teachers, Noteflight Learning Edition makes publishing and sharing musical teaching materials with students easy, as well as reviewing and marking up work. For students, it allows them to share their work and access resources and assignments from any Internet-enabled computer.

Higher education institutions, have also adopted Noteflight for use in their music education programs. Noteflight recently announced that Northeastern University is using the notation software for both distance learning and in-person courses in a number of instructional areas, such as Music Fundamentals and Music Theory.
