Big news: We just released Noteflight 2.4 yesterday. Part of this release is an exciting new K-12 product, Noteflight Classroom, that allows you to create and administer your own Noteflight site. Also in 2.4 are notational improvements like treble/tenor clef, cut and common time, and more. Read the release notes for more information.

Noteflight @ Boston Music Hack Day Oct. 16

Boston Music Hack Day is coming again (it’s in Cambridge, actually, our home base), and we’re getting excited here at the Noteflight shop.

We’ll be participating in two ways.

First, we’re giving a 20-minute workshop on Noteflight technology, covering our platform and introducing new aspects of our server and client APIs. We’ll show off some nifty HTML5 R&D projects while we’re at it — there’s more to Noteflight than Flash technology.

Second, we’ll be hacking (of course). We’re still musing on what we’ll do, but all our candidate ideas seem really fun to us so far. Show up, meet us, and see what we come up with! The whole event is a blast and there’s always a lot of fun, unexpected stuff to see and play with.

Come along and find us!

Playback of Single Parts is Coming Back

Posted June 23rd, 2010 by joe

Recently we removed a feature for playing individual parts that we thought few people used. It worked by checking to see if a single staff was selected, and playing back only that one staff in this case. We thought that this feature was confusing and poorly documented, and it internally conflicted with a new Part Mixer feature that we created for Crescendo. When we created the Part Mixer, it seemed like the best idea to take out the old single-staff feature.

Well, perhaps it wasn’t the best idea… and we’ve thought better of it.

What we’ve found out since the 2.1 release is that that a lot of users really cared about this feature — so we’re bringing it back! It wasn’t our intention to remove something that feels really basic to everyone. We are planning to release a system upgrade in the next week or two that will restore this feature to life. Thanks to everyone who wrote to us and shared their thoughts with us.
